THE MOVIE: There are plans to bring back the long-gestating team superhero adaptation, the Justice League, to the big screen by 2013. The Justice League of America (or JLA) originally featured the line-up of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter. Other characters: Green Arrow, Captain Marvel, Black Canary, the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Plastic Man, Red Tornado, Firestorm, Zatanna, other Green Lanterns, and dozens of others. Mad Max’s George Miller was previously attached to direct.

Updates: Dark Horizons notes that the JLA film won’t tie in with the storylines for the upcoming Batman and Superman films. | Now Comicbookmovie.com is reporting a JLA movie is being planned after the Superman and Green Lantern sequels, which would be around 2015-2016. At least that’s the rumour.

Variety reports that Warner Brothers quietly began getting its own all-star superhero gang on track, tapping Gangster Squad scribe Will Beall to write Justice League. I’m rooting for DC, but with The Avenger conquering the box office world, JLA will need all the help they can get. | Indiewire reports Warner Bros. is considering rebooting Green Lantern without Ryan Reynolds, as part of their DC plan, which will ultimately lead to Justice League. Meanwhile, comic book writer Mark Millar says he’s heard some behind the scenes info and that this JL movie will be “dark and mature.”

According to The Playlist, it was first reported by Variety that Warner wanted Ben Affleck to helm Justice League; hours later, Deadline reported that the actor/director had already turned the job down. “I’m not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumours get started,” Affleck told 24 Hours. | According to Movie Hole, The Lone Ranger’s Armie Hammer is back on Warner’s radar for the role of Batman in Justice League.

Place your bets: who will dominate the summer of 2015, Justice League or Avengers 2? AICN indicates Warner Brothers is looking to get a Justice League movie in fighting shape for a Summer 2015 release. Now all they need is, you know, a director… | New rumors circulating online suggest that Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel may in fact be the first building block towards the Justice League movie. In addition, AICN suggests we could see Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake AKA the new Batman during a Man of Steel ending teaser. | AICN relays word from Latino Review that the main villain in the Justice League film will be…Darkseid!

BREAKING NEWS: AICN relays how Latino Review got their big scoop: Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder, and David Goyer are now the stewards of the Justice League movie. The plan is presumably for Nolan and Goyer to collaborate on a script and Snyder to direct the film. Warner Brothers is reportedly ecstatic with Snyder’s take on Superman in Man of Steel, so it makes sense for the studio to hand him their next big superhero movie. And the speculation is that Nolan’s presence will help bring Christian Bale back to the role of Batman for Justice League.

I’m almost surprised that the George Miller JL movie never happened, just because they went so far as to screen test actors in costumes (I think Arnie Hammer AKA the new Lone Ranger was going to play Batman). The casting was skewing younger, though, and it would have been bizarre to see a bunch of 20-something kids playing the Justice League.

I think Warner Brothers was earnestly attempting to go the Marvel route, by doing a film for each hero and then building up to a team movie, but then Green Lantern bombed and the house of cards came tumbling down. I still think they can rebound from this – if Man of Steel is good. If Man of Steel is a good movie and a hit at the box office, all they have to do is move ahead with the Batman reboot (which Nolan is producing) and then at least have one other good solo character flick – say, The Flash.

Green Lantern can still be in a Justice League movie, just recast him as the John Stewart GL, that way they’d have more diversity on the team and reach a wider audience.

I think this could be just as big as The Avengers and maybe even bigger
