The Training Day director plans to tackle a biopic on Tang Dynasty-era concubine Yang Guifei. The angle will be a tragic love story between her and Emperor Xuanzong, who had the longest reign of that era, and whose relationship was the subject of a number of Chinese tales. The project is tentatively budgeted for $30 million, the script is almost ready, and they’re currently casting for parts. Hopefully, Fuqua will have a less exploitive approach to the subject of Asian courtesans than other directors. [NSFW.]
