Reviews PERKELE'S REVIEW: I decides to get this flick because of the positive reviews this have achieved here, but boy was I misleaded. I'm actually quite surprised that "A Kid from Tibet" turned out to be so bad, because I've always thought very highly about Yuen Biao. He's one of the best and most agile fighters I've ever seen and have also directed some very impressive action sequences, i.e. the final fights of "Heart of Dragon" and "Encounters of the Spooky Kind". But here, in his own directorial debut, his magnificence is not shown at all. The movie is so slow-paced that I had difficulties to stay awake. It's very heavy on the story and the story isn't so good that they should spend the most of the movie telling it. But they did. Was it two or three fights? I don't really care but the best was the one with Nina Li Chi [who's dressed in black leather and uses a whip, uuh] and the most stupid and uninspired is the final clash between Biao and Yuen Wah. Don't expect any classic match like in "The Iceman Cometh", this is just boring. How can they be SO SLOW??? And those so-called special effects... give me a brake! PERKELE'S RATING: 3/10
DJ NIXON'S REVIEW: I really liked this one even though it didn't have Jackie (besides his cameo). Yuen Biao is just so amazing if you think about it, sometimes even more then Jackie. The fights were really good in this and Yuen got to show off lots of his skills.Yuen Wah played the bad guy (is he ever the good guy) and he did a good job. I don't see why Yuen Biao doesn't direct any more movies because I thought it was really good and would like to see more of the same kind. The only thing I didn't like about this one is that the magic stuff had really cheezy special effects. Good movie but don't expect any Jackie, I still liked it though. DJ NIXON'S RATING: 8.5/10
KISHIGAI'S REVIEW: Jackie's childhood friend and Opera School buddy Yuen Biao gets to open a can of whoop ass instead of Jackie. It was pretty good. Its about a monk (I think he's a monk) who is trying to recover a stolen magical item. Jackie has a small cameo. I thought it was good. KISHIGAI'S RATING: 7.5/10 |
