RELEASE DATE: June 12, 2012

Warner Bros. presents the Lethal Weapon: The Complete Collection on Blu-ray. Along with Die Hard, the first Lethal Weapon is one of the greatest action films of all time. The sequels that followed have nothing on the original, but as a whole, the franchise is solid entertainment. All films are directed by genius filmmaker, Richard Donner (“Superman”).

Honestly, I think Lethal Weapon 2 might be my favorite in the series.

  2. I recently watched parts 1 and 2 back to back… they’re both pretty good, but part 1 beats it by a couple of notches (mostly due to that excellent escape scene). I’ve been on a big Richard Donner kick lately. His commentaries for Superman and Superman 2: Donner cut are hilarious. He really hates the Salkinds. lol! What exactly makes you like Part 2 the most?

    • HKFanatic says:

It’s been awhile since I watched them both. I remember that Part 2 was a bit more slick and mainstream than Part 1. However, I thought that two of the key elements of the first film – the humor and the action – were cranked way up in LW2. It was more of what made the first movie work but bigger and better, and with Joe Pesci’s added presence (“They always fuck you at the drive thru!”).

The first one was darker and more interesting, perhaps, but LW2 still had that shocking death before the third act. I got a visceral thrill out of seeing Mel Gibson’s unleashed rage.

      • I agree. After all that comedy, that death and his unsurpassed rage makes LW2 a one of a kind, mainstream action flick of the 90’s (or was that 89?). It’s just too bad LW3 was nearly straight up comedy; even LW4 was pretty cartoony… good Jet Li was around to save it from being another part 3.
