THE MOVIE: Paramount has been trying to get a Jack Ryan reboot off the ground for some time now. The film will feature a younger version of the character previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt For Red October, Harrison Ford in Patriot Games and Ben Affleck in The Sum of All Fears.

Script issues have consistently derailed the project but Star Trek reboot actor Chris Pine remains the current it-guy for the lead role. The new film, which  will be directed by Kenneth Branagh, will not be based on any of the previous books, but will attempt to capture the same flavor.

Updates: Via Collider, Indiana Jones 4 writer David Koepp will punch up the script. Variety reports that Thor director Kenneth Branagh is likely to helm the Jack Ryan film. Deadline reports that Kevin Costner has been offered to co-star. Since the reboot will be a prequel, Costner would play Ryan’s mentor who recruits him and shows him the ropes. According to Cinema Blend, Keira Knightley will be playing Ryan’s wife, who becomes endangered after Ryan discovers a terrorist plot to collapse the United States economy.

Collider reports that Kevin Costner has accepted the offer to play Ryan’s mentor in Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan reboot. In Addition, Costner has also signed to play the same role in Without Remorse, a film based on Tom Clancy’s 1993 novel which takes place within the Jack Ryan universe. Christopher McQuarrie (Valkyrie) is set to write and direct Without Remorse. Tom Hardy is being courted to play John Clark, who is the lead character. Collider has the first image of Kevin Costner playing a legendary CIA field agent in Jack Ryan. Also, Total Film has a first look at Chris Pine as Jack Ryan.

Collider has a few new images of Pine and Branagh on the set. Enjoy even more photos from the set.

BREAKING NEWS: Cinema Blend has a new set photo of Chris Pine sporting a different hair style, which hints that the movie may take place in different time periods in young Jack Ryan’s life.
