"Thor: The Dark World" Theatrical Poster
THE MOVIE: Thor returns with his giant hammer in Thor: The Dark World. Who will Thor fight this time? Will the movie serve as a set-up for Avengers 2? Only time will tell. Starring Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston. This time director Alan Taylor (TV’s Game of Thrones) is behind the camera. In theaters November 15, 2013.
Updates: The sequel will have Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer’s Don Payne as a writer. Dark Horizons indicates the sequel will explore the other nine worlds common to the Nordic epic. CBM explains why Branagh ditched Thor 2.
Kenneth Branagh recently elaborated on why he won’t be returning for Thor 2. The short version: Marvel wanted to get the gears turning on a sequel too soon and Branagh has other projects he’s interested in, like Wallander season 3.
Although this has been known for a little while, actor Idris Elba – who has long been a rumored replacement for Daniel Craig as James Bond – has reiterated he will be returning for Thor 2. He suggests that if the sequel chooses to heavily focus on Asgard, his character Heimdall will have a larger role.
