THE MOVIE: Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, the fourth film in the franchise, is officially complete. Shot in 3D, it arrives on Video on Demand this October 25th and in limited theatrical release on November 30th, 2012. Universal Soldier: Regeneration’s John Hyams is back in the director’s chair and Scott Adkins, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Dolph Lundgren, and Andrei Arlovski all star.
Updates: Dolph Lundgren states that the 4th film will be “More violent than the last one.”
During an online video Q&A, Scott Adkins talks about Universal Soldier, Dolph Lundgren, Tony Jaa, Donnie Yen, Undisputed 4 and more. Adkins just hyped the R-rated content for the film on his Twitter: Bummed out that Expendables 2 will be PG-13? Never fear, UniSol 4 will probably be the most violent action film you’ve ever seen.
Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Facebook posted a new picture of himself promoting the movie. You can help fund the self-produced, in-depth, behind the scenes documentary Into A New Dimension: The Making of Universal Soldier: A New Dimension by Doug Magnuson. For more information, check out a video. A Spanish-language Dolph Lundgren fan forum has some new (and wild-looking) pictures from the film.
MovieHole has an exclusive interview with director/co-writer John Hyams that touches on nearly every aspect of the film – Van Damme’s screentime, shooting in 3D, the rating, and more. Hyams cites filmmakers like David Cronenberg, David Lynch, and Gaspar Noe as key influences so we can expect Day of Reckoning to be anything but your typical action movie. Meanwhile, enjoy a selection of Day of Reckoning images here.
The official poster has been released. Director John Hyams shared this impressive fan poster on Facebook. Here’s a slick official poster, courtesy of Beyond Hollywood. Also, check out the new trailer, which is slightly different from the one we posted weeks ago. Check out an interesting foreign poster that UV4‘s official Facebook shared.
Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning has arrived on Video on Demand and is available at Amazon.com. Still undecided? Here’s a Featurette on Apple Quicktime. Be sure and check out the Red Band trailer and three new character posters at AICN.
BREAKING NEWS: FlickeringMyth.com has a revealing interview with John Hyams, director of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning. Also, be sure to read our review for the film.

This is really good news but, man, I’m having a hard time imagining a flick more violent than “Universal Soldier: Regeneration.” Does Dolph not remember having a pipe shoved through his head in that one? This must be a seriously blood flick.
This is why Scott Adkins is my hero.
ok
This movie is going to kick ass!
Damn! I thought the movie was coming out on DVD in May! Damn! I doubt it will be in theaters, and if so a couple maybe. Now I have to wait till October, bummer dude!
Yeah, I’m really looking forward to this one. I mean they’re gonna have to work hard to top the last one.
With Van Damme playing a second bad guy in a year, Dolph being a complete OTT nut job and Adkins taking over the roll as Unisol Hero + the film being rumoured to be on of the most violent movie of modern times there is no doubt that this film is gonna rock like no other Unisol movie has before
“There is no doubt that this film is gonna rock like no other Unisol movie has before.” I have a strong feeling that you’re right! With Scott Adkins starring and John Hyams behind the camera, I think there’s serious potential for this movie to be a game changer…the action genre may yet be redefined by Day of Reckoning.
Scott Adkins makes his debut in the Universal Soldier series at ActionFest 2012, but maybe they should have kept this footage to themselves.by Fred Topel
ActionFest landed the exclusive premiere of the opening scenes of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, due out in 3D this fall. They erroneously called it Universal Soldier IV but true fans know it’s VI. They also said this was about 10 minutes and I didn’t quite time it but it felt like about 10 minutes. Maybe it was 7 or so.
I have to say, I think it was a mistake to show this opening on its own. It’s so dark it causes more concern than excitement. They really should have shown the whole movie. Then we would all understand (and not spoil) all the twists, and we’d be able to talk about the awesome fights. There were no fights in this section and it was not presented in 3D.
The opening of Day of Reckoning introduces Scott Adkins’ new character. It’s shot from his point of view, which is kind of a cliché, the first person camera experience. It’s well shot, with lots of reflections in mirrors, but it’s an old trick. This won’t be a major 3D sequence I imagine.
It seems like this is the explanation for how Adkins’ character becomes a Unisol, if you know how Universal Soldiers are made. Maybe not, maybe he stays human and has to fight the Unisols. Either way is fine. I like Adkins and I would follow him in this entry.
It’s very gloomy and unpleasant though, the way modern movies revel in how grim violence is. It worked in Universal Soldier: Regeneration because it was exploring how bad it felt to be a Unisol after all these years. That’s the thing, just seeing this opening scene of violence doesn’t let us know there’s anything deeper to it. It’s just an uncomfortable sequence.
Then there’s a shocking reveal of one of the regular characters in the Universal Soldier series. I’m not sure I like it, but you have to see where they’re going with it. This just raises uncomfortable questions. As in, it’s not tantalizing like, “Woah, WTF is going on?” It’s more “Ew, is this what the whole movie’s going to be?”
When Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning comes out, we’ll watch the whole thing and then judge it. ActionFest would have gone ape for an exclusive screening and they would have talked it up all year. This was not an enticing clip to show.
I sure hope This movie is what I expect it to be…also come out in theaters. Because they said it would be in 3-D, 3-D comes out in theaters, right?
I like Hyams’ explanation of why he hates PG-13 movies. =D Well said.
I hope this movie is not as bland as this poster, or the rusty salty cracker Dragon Eyes movie.
I wanna see a trailer already
Holy crap that trailer was brutal

nice poster
The film was bloody as hell. Nonstop hardcore action bloody violence. Creepiest US movie so far. Whew what a rush, but I wish Van Damme did more than just stand there like a creep. Still its a 2 hour movie lots of action and stuff go check it out.
