THE MOVIE: Writer/director Gareth Evans and Iko Uwais are hardly resting on their laurels after the global success of The Raid. In fact, they’re currently prepping the sequel. The story begins two hours after the first movie ends, with Uwais’ character going undercover to infiltrate one of Jakarta’s biggest crime syndicates and uncover corruption within his own police department.
The movie is being developed under the working title of Berandal. It’s likely based on a treatment the duo created back in 2010 that involved Uwais trapped inside a violent prison and forced to fight his way out. Evans has stated there will be even more action in the sequel, with a total of eighteen action sequences planned. While it almost seems impossible for the team to top their efforts in The Raid, it’s clear they’re trying.
