RELEASE DATE: July 17, 2012

MGM presents the Blu-ray for 1983’s Lone Wolf McQuade, directed by The Arena’s Steve Carver. Think an edgier Walker, Texas Ranger with a clash of Spaghetti western (its memorable soundtrack was done by Italian composer Francesco De Masi). Also starring David Carradine’s gargoyle sweater and Barbara Carrera. Check out the trailer.

  1. HKFanatic says:

I think this is arguably Chuck Norris’ finest movie. It basically takes his whole ‘tough, Texas ranger’ persona and spins it into mythic legend…the epic soundtrack, as you mentioned, adds to that feel. I’m glad to see it come to Blu-ray.

  2. Yeah, the soundtrack adds a great deal to it. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite Norris flick. It’s a cross between this, Delta Force and Yellow-Faced Tiger (aka Slaughter in San Francisco).

  3. LONE WOLF MCQUADE quite eerily echoes his latter 90s TV series WALKER,TEXAS RANGER,as he plays a dirty, beer guzzling Texas Ranger who’s quite practically an early incarnation of that very TV character(only without his strong morals) in this film.

Yup, that’s partially why I like it so much: it takes the whole Walker Texas Ranger thing but removes the quaint Conservative moralizing and spins it like a spaghetti Western with almost mythic overtones.

I mean, there’s the whole scene where Chuck gets buried alive and comes roaring out of the grave in his truck after guzzling a few beers…that’s classic stuff.
