THE MOVIE: Even before The Amazing Spider-Man grossed an impressive $751 million at the worldwide box office, Sony announced they were developing a sequel to the film. Expect the principal players of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone to return. And perhaps this time the story will truly light shed on Peter Parker’s ‘untold origin,’ a subplot which was reportedly cut from the first film. Expected release date for this 3D sequel is May 2nd, 2014.
Updates: AICN reports that Sony has already commissioned screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci (Transformers, Cowboys & Aliens) to begin penning a script for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Sony is apparently happy with Marc Webb’s delivery of the first installment, as Variety relays news that Webb will return to direct The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is also in talks to star as an unspecified female character…could it be Felicia Harding AKA the Black Cat? That would mean Peter would have three possible love interests to juggle in this film, including Gwen Stacy and Mary Jane Watson.
