THE MOVIE: George Miller returns to the post-apocalyptic-action franchise that put him on the map. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron headline the picture. Also of note: this will be the first Mad Max to incorporate CG elements.

Updates: Dark Horizons via the Australian Financial Review suggests that Miller is hoping for another trilogy. AICN via TheAge.com.au has a look at the vehiclesAICN has posted some new Fury Road vehicles.

Total Film reports that according to Charlize Theron, Mad Max 4: Fury Road begins shooting in June. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) has been cast as one of the ‘Five Wives’ of the story, playing opposite Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class) and Riley Keough (Magic Mike). If my math is right, that means there are still two more wives to cast. Shooting on the film will begin any day now, though, in Nambia, Africa.

A new batch of set photos, showcasing some of the vehicles in the film. Collider reports that Megan Gale – who almost played Wonder Woman in George Miller’s cancelled Justice League film – will finally get to team up with the director in Mad Max 4: Fury Road.

Curious about the plot? Director George Miller finally revealed something of a summary via this official press release. Quote: “Mad Max (Tom Hardy) is caught up with a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by the Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). This movie is an account of the Road War which follows.” Collider has a handful of new set photos!

According to word from the Hollywood Reporter, Mad Max: Fury Road is currently 5 days behind schedule and over-budget. Warner Brothers has dispatched ace producer Denise di Novi (Batman Returns) to the film’s Nambia set to oversee the last days of production. Fury Road has a price tag of around $100-125 million but the studio remains confident that shooting is almost done.

AICN has a glimpse of Mad Max’s Interceptor car from a charity event. Fury Road is said to take place after Beyond Thunderdome but the presence of the Interceptor somewhat calls this into question.

After some drama with the studio, principal photography has officially wrapped on George Miller’s fourth Mad Max film. Hopefully we’ll see a teaser trailer soon as the movie progresses through post-production. The Playlist has the first look at Tom Hardy as Max.

So going to suck. Mad Max was never a chick flick, so stop pretending otherwise, Hollywood.

    • I want Mel back. After watching GET THE GRINGO, he’s capable of returning as Max.

      • HKFanatic says:

You should review Get the Gringo. But everybody that doubts Tom Hardy should watch Bronson. I think he’ll be a capable Max.

        • Ningen31 says:

I kinda am willing to give Hardy the benefit of the doubt, but everything else about the project sounds like a Mad Max 3-style disaster.

          • HKFanatic says:

I feel like they’d actively have to try hard to make this worse than Mad Max 3. Then again, Tina Turner could probably use the work…

  2. Ningen31 says:

Yeah, this is going to suck. Why not just remake Tank Girl instead?

  3. Mel Gibson says:

What can I tell you, The Jews ruin everything. It’s bad enough they killed Jesus, now they have to kill Mad Max. Smile and blow me!

  4. Tango says:

I am SO excited for this to come out! I just streamed a Mad Max marathon through my DISH Hopper’s Blockbuster @Home app, and after a lot of thought I think Tom Hardy is going to do just fine. I heard earlier today from one of my coworkers at DISH that Mel gave his blessing to Tom Hardy, and he thinks that there aren’t any other actors who could play the role as well. I don’t think the whole being over budget is going to matter because they’re going to make it all back.
