Media outlets are reporting the death of Panna Rittikrai, who left behind an impressive film resume, most notable, his groundbreaking choreography work in Ong-Bak (2003), which is considered one of the finest martial arts movies of all time. According to sources, Rittikrai passed away, due to an unnamed disease, including liver failure, on July 19, 2014, at the age of 53.

During his integral contribution to the Thai film industry, Rittikrai staged the action in films like Born to Fight (2004) and Chocolate (2008); acted in the original Born to Fight (1984) and Dynamite Warrior (2006); and even helmed Bangkok Knockout, as well as co-directing Ong-Bak 2 (2008) and Ong-Bak 3 (2010), with Tony Jaa.

Our condolences go out to Rittikrai’s family and friends.

This is terrible news! Pretty much every thai film I’ve enjoyed has involved Panna Rittikrai in one way or another. Far too young. I might watch my Bangkok Knockout DVD tomorrow to see his awesome choreography and see him viciously kick some ass.

I think in the years to come, “Bangkok Knockout” will be held up as one of Panna’s masterpieces. There are some absolutely jaw-dropping moments in that film and the stuntmen seem to take no end of punishment. Panna himself even gets in on the action, appearing in the movie as a nigh-invincible baddie.

Sad news. The martial arts community has lost one of its most talented champions.

Panna has been an important part of some amazing movies. I’m certain in the future when they talk about action choreography his name and work will be referenced, and no doubt attempts to copy his insane style. There is not another like him. R.I.P. Panna
