Variety reports that Tom Cruise is set to star in a remake of John Sturges 1960 classic, The Magnificent Seven. And let’s not forget about the Van Helsing reboot, which Cruise is also attached to.

The original The Magnificent Seven – a remake itself of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai - starred Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Robert Vaughn, Brad Dexter, and Horst Buchholz. The plot involved seven American gunmen who are hired to protect a small village in Mexico from a group of Mexican bandits.

Does this mean Cruise will star alongside six other high profile actors? The casting call for this remake could get interesting, a la Oceans Eleven. Like I said before, remakes and reboots are hit (Vanilla Sky) or miss (Straw Dogs) with me. If anything, they always strike my interest. If they suck, I always have the originals to fall back on. Please be sure and check out HKFanatic’s review for the original Magnificent Seven.

Updates: According to Collider, the remake will be penned by Nic Pizzolatto, who wrote a couple episodes of The Killing and the HBO drama, True Detective.
