Legendary Hong Kong actor Wu Ma, who starred in and directed a number of Hong Kong classics, has died of cancer at the age of 71.

From kungfucinema.com: Born Feng Hongyuan on August 18, 1942, Wu started out as a machinist before leaving the mainland for Hong Kong at the age of 18. In 1962, Wu decided to become an actor and enrolled in the Shaw Brothers Acting School. After graduating a year later, he made his film debut in Lady General Hua Mulan (1964) as Hua Mu Di. He was a regular in many early Shaw Brothers films.

Wu would later appear regularly in a number of Golden Harvest films, opposite stars like Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao. He also directed many films, including Showdown at the Cotton Mill (1978) and Circus Kids (1994).

Our condolences go out to Wu Ma’s family and friends.
