Paramount has their ‘Eagle Eye’ on a director for ‘G.I. Joe 3′

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" Korean Theatrical Poster

Fan reception to G.I. Joe: Retaliation was somewhat mixed but it seems Dwayne ‘The Rock” Johnson’s box office prowess carried the movie to global success. Now, Paramount is on a mission to bring the popular franchise back on the big screen once again.

First, director Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Justin Bieber’s Believe) was in talks to helm the third installment. Then Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) came and went. Now, THR reports that D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, Disturbia) is in talks to direct G.I. Joe 3.

No other actors from the last two films have committed themselves to G.I. Joe 3, but it’s safe to assume that The Rock will return as Roadblock. Stay tuned!

In that suit-costume who could tell?

  2. Has anyone here even seen the the first one? I thought it did horrible, but it looks like the casting call is turning into some serious business for the sequel.

I saw the first one. It was indeed a pretty bad movie, but it did moderately well at the box office. I think the producers are looking to mimic how The Rock recently injected life back into the “Fast and Furious” franchise, and the then there’s the fact that Hasbro’s other toy franchise “Transformers” is still making boatloads of money.

There’s a sequence in the middle of the “GI Joe” movie with these CG characters running around in a blatantly unrealistic manner, causing all sorts of destruction in Paris…that was kind of fun, but, man, Channing Tatum is the worst lead you possibly could imagine for a franchise and for some reason they’re keeping him onboard. He’s dull as a brick – he’s what happens when you try to turn an ex-male stripper into an action star.

But hey, Storm Shadow is played by the guy from “I Saw the Devil” and he’s coming back for the sequel too. ;D

I saw the first one and even did a review but I wasn’t sure if I should post it as I am not a part of the “G.I.Joe World”. Maybe I will post it.

Yes Lee Byung-hun was in the first one and the second as well. He is a masterful actor –
The “Good, the Bad, the Weird”, “Addicted”, “A Bittersweet Life” “I Saw The Devil” etc.
I think the idea with this role was to expose him to international audiences. He has really done a lot to further his career including speaking flawless English.

Maybe I’ll see if I can find that review……

  3. HKFanatic says:

Yeah, you should definitely post your review, JJ. I haven’t seen the movie since it came out but I remember that Lee Byung-hun was one of the best parts of it, or rather one of the only good parts ;D You can’t go wrong with the whole Snake Eyes vs. StormShadow rivalry.

How can Roadblock go from a black dude, to a hawaiian dude. Man they sure fucked up these GI Joe movies.

  5. JJ Hatfield says:

So where is that nifty poster of Lee? =D

  6. HKFanatic says:

Love the trailer! I’ve watched it about four times. Very ridiculous and bombastic but it feels like the cartoon come to life, minus all the lasers. Even Cobra Commander’s helmet looks a lot better. This just seems like what the first movie should have been. Looks like Channing Tatum is only gonna be in the first twenty minutes and then The Rock and Bruce Willis take over. That makes me happy.

  7. NegativeCreep says:

I did not care for the first movie. I guess I’ll give this franchise one more chance with this sequel.

  8. Ningen31 says:

Meh, they just didn’t wanna lose to Dark Knight Rises, Expendables 2 and The Avengers. It’s understandable, though. Of course, if they’ve delayed it that far, it might also mean they lack confidence in the final product…

    • Ningen31 says:

Well, actually, June 29 would’ve been a good week for them, so I’m not sure why they needed to delay it that badly. Maybe they thought Magic Mike would’ve somehow canceled it out?

  9. ActionJackson says:

They delayed it so they could put in 3D. A total retarded business making decision. Hollywood is just being taken over by greed.

  10. Ningen31 says:

Tatum’s flavor of the year. If you’re going to reshoot to include him, you need to get it in before his 15 minutes are up. Dragging it out to also include 3D will just defeat the whole purpose.

    • Yeah, this whole 3D thing feels like a cop out. Either 1) the movie sucks so bad, that they have to do re-shoots or 2) They’re afraid to put it up with the other blockbusters or 3) Both! lol

  11. OpiumKungFuCracker says:

    Fuck Tatum!!!!

  12. ActionJackson says:

The first GI Joe sucked, and Expendables 2 will kick this movies ass anyway.

  13. Georgianne Divelbiss says:

In “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” released in 2009, the world was in danger because of a substance called nanomite that could be put on the head of nuclear warheads, allowing them to melt metal and cause more destruction. The plan to launch a set of nuclear warheads was thwarted, but apparently, not for good. In 2012’s “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” the nanomite-laced warheads are back. Only this time, the nefarious shadow group called Cobra plans to use a new program to induce global domination with the nukes. They don’t care how many lives they have to take, and they blow up the entire city of London to prove that they mean business. `^
